Spirit of a Place is a transformative design project rooted in the rich history of the Chelsea College of Arts site. Once a prison and later a medical army school, the space carries traces of trauma and institutional memory. My aim was to heal this energy by reawakening its genius loci—the spirit of the place—through the quiet, grounding power of nature. Inspired by the theory of “new occupancy” and the way natural elements reclaim abandoned spaces, I reimagined the site with a clay tree-like structure, grassy floors, and organic seating to foster calm, connection, and restoration. This immersive installation blends sensory experiences, material honesty, and historical reverence to give the space new life, inviting users to reconnect with themselves and their surroundings.
